Waymarked updates & details

Last updated: September 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how iLife BV ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses your information when you use our mobile application, Waymarked (the "App"), and related services.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you register or sign in to Waymarked, we collect information required to create and manage your account:

  • Email Address: Your primary email address, or an anonymized relay email address provided by Apple (*@privaterelay.appleid.com) if you choose to sign in with Apple.
  • Profile Information: Your chosen nickname/display name and an optional profile picture (avatar).
  • Authentication Identifiers: A unique user identifier (UUID) assigned to your account.

Authentication can be performed using Email Magic Links, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In.

1.2 Location Data

Waymarked collects your device's precise location data (GPS) to provide core navigation features:

  • Foreground Location: We use location data while the app is in open use to display your current position on the map and facilitate searching for nearby trails.
  • Background Location (Navigation): When you actively start a navigation session, Waymarked continues to access your location in the background to track progress, provide real-time turn-by-turn guidance, calculate distance, and alert you if you deviate from the path.
    • Wear OS Specifics: On Wear OS devices, background tracking uses a foreground service with a persistent notification to ensure the operating system does not kill the process, allowing you to dim the screen while tracking progress.

Real-time navigation location data is processed locally on your device for immediate navigation purposes.

1.3 Saved Activities & Cloud Sync (Optional)

If you are signed in and choose to save or sync completed walking or cycling activities to the cloud:

  • We collect and store activity statistics (distance, duration, average speed, date/time), custom activity titles, visibility settings (public, unlisted, or private), and recorded route geometry (GPS polyline tracks).
  • Saving activities to the cloud is completely optional; you can choose to store activities locally on your device only.

1.4 Support & Communication Data (Optional)

If you choose to use the in-app support chat, bug reporting, or feature request functions, we collect:

  • Your message content, account ID, app version, and operating system platform (Android/iOS/Web).
  • This data is retained to allow our developer team to respond to inquiries and diagnose technical issues.

1.5 User Preferences

The App stores your non-personal settings locally on your device, such as language preference, map rotation settings, and favorite trails.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

  • Provide, maintain, and personalize the Waymarked App and user profiles.
  • Synchronize saved activities across your devices (when enabled).
  • Enable active navigation features and display relevant hiking/cycling routes.
  • Process support inquiries and improve the App.

3. Data Sharing, Processors & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. The App interacts with the following services to operate:

  • Supabase Inc.: Backend infrastructure provider handling user authentication, database storage (account data & saved cloud activities), and media storage (avatars). Data is hosted securely in European Union data centers.
  • Google Sign-In & Apple Sign-In: Authentication token processing when logging in via third-party identity providers.
  • OpenStreetMap (OSM): The App fetches map tiles from tile.openstreetmap.org. Your IP address and User-Agent are sent to OSM servers to retrieve map tiles.
  • Nominatim (Search): Address searches are sent to nominatim.openstreetmap.org. Queries and your IP address are processed by Nominatim in accordance with their privacy policy.
  • Overpass API (Trail Data): This app uses a self-hosted Overpass API instance to fetch trail data. Your location coordinates (bounding box) are sent to this server to retrieve trails. No personal identifiers are stored.

4. User Rights & Account Deletion

Under applicable privacy regulations (such as GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access & Export: Request a copy of your personal data stored on our servers.
  • Account Deletion: Delete your account and associated personal data at any time via the in-app account settings screen, or by contacting support at support@ilife.be. Deleting your account permanently erases your authentication profile, display name, avatar, and saved cloud activities from Supabase.

5. Security

We value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it, including HTTPS/TLS encryption and database security policies. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable.

6. Children’s Privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
